Meredith's Husband:

I do get the question sort of often like hey, can I just hire you to do my SEO for me? And while I would love to, I mean I do like doing SEO, I like making people happy. The answer to that question is usually no, and the reason I've wanted to do this episode for a while because I fear that saying no to that comes across as being like, well, you can't afford me, whereas that's not exactly the issue. But why is that? Why is that so? I say I'm an SEO consultant. Yeah, so to be honest, that question makes sense. Why would you not ask an SEO consultant if they can consult on SEO for you? Makes sense. Yeah, my clients are not direct company owners. Okay, I work for marketing agencies, which means and marketing agencies. Sorry, I used to do voiceovers for them, but I have no idea what marketing, right? That's actually similar. The marketing agency has a client. Let's say their client is Coca-Cola. Yeah, the marketing agency hires you to do a voiceover. Yeah, now they may sit with Coca-Cola and say here are 10 finalists, right, the 10 voices we're considering. Yeah, and they would consult with them. Yeah, but it's not Coca-Cola going out and doing a casting call and finding the artists and doing auditions Right and doing a casting call and finding the artists and doing auditions Right, they hire a marketing agency. So similar thing. So a marketing agency has the client let's say Coca-Cola, yeah, and they talk with Coca-Cola about, hey, what are your goals, what are you trying to do? And then, based on that, they assemble a team of professionals and that might be organic search, it might be paid social, it might be podcast, whatever it is. Then the marketing agency goes out and assembles a team of people to do that. I'm part of those teams. That's where I fit in as a consultant.

Meredith's Husband:

Now, many years ago, when I started, yes, I did work directly with business owners and I really I love that. Like, I like that dynamic, I like personal, yeah, I really like it. The cutthroat business, yeah. So I mentioned that I don't work for the client. I do still work with the client. So I would have zoom calls with a client every month and we would talk and I'd work with their teams.

Meredith's Husband:

But it's not that the client is paying me directly, right? Remember, they pay the marketing agency. The marketing agency pays me Right. On my calls with the client might be that marketing agency. There usually is a person, because I can't answer any financial questions. Right, I don't know how much the client pays for me, right? The client doesn't know how much I get paid. It all goes through the marketing agency.

Meredith's Husband:

So, on one of these calls not too long ago, I was speaking with a CMO. There was a director of development, there was somebody from blogging and social, et cetera, et cetera. It was a big group call, and some of that call had nothing to do with me and the budget was on the screen. So I took a peek down to see oh, what is the budget for organic marketing consultants Me, me and there's one or two other people who would fit into that category. So the annual budget was a million dollars for organic marketing consultants.

Meredith's Husband:

Now, that does not mean that I made a million dollars. Oh, how I wish that it did. However, that's the scope. That's the kind of world where I fit in Right Now. As much as I would love to help you with your own SEO and do your SEO for you, it's not a feasible option. It's not sustainable, right, I could not do it Right. However, yes, what I have done instead is I've created a platform where we can work together and we can do that in one of three ways. Okay, number one there is sorry Buster's. Buster's excited, he's snoring, so excited he's snoring.

Meredith's Husband:

There is a free level where you can continue If you get value from these episodes, if they've helped you and your business, your website, in any way. This is an extension of that. For example, we did an episode on the ultimate blogging checklist. Do you remember that episode? No, but that doesn't mean anything. However, I have created video demos and tutorials that do walk you through that process exactly how to use SEMRush and, in detail, how to look things up in detail. Yeah, like every little subtopic would have its own video and you can follow along Five, 10 minutes and you follow along, et cetera.

The mentoring includes everything else. It includes all the free and pro-level content. That's great, and you did that because people were asking for it. Because people were asking, and it is very rewarding personally to get to work with people one-on-one, even if it's just a little bit to help their business. Now, I should say the number of mentoring seats is limited. Well, of course, I can't do a whole bunch of them, no, but they are also not meant to be like an ongoing thing that lasts forever, right? So, seats, even if they are full now, they will open up, right, because people will get the information they need and be able to fly the nest. That's very nice.
